With more than 30 years in the paperhanging trade, I understand that the installer is responsible for more than getting the material onto the wall. Layout decisions, pattern placement, wall preparation and the handling of specialty materials can all affect the designer's original vision for the room.
I'm comfortable getting involved early in the process—reviewing specifications, measuring, calculating material requirements and discussing potential installation issues before the wallcovering is ordered. Once on site, the same attention carries through preparation, layout and installation.

An Experienced Partner in the Process
The best wallcovering installations often begin before the installer arrives on site. Getting a paperhanger involved early can help identify potential issues with measurements, material quantities, pattern placement, wall conditions and product specifications before they become problems.
I work with designers as a resource throughout that process. If you're considering a particular wallcovering, I'm happy to review the specifications, discuss the installation requirements and help determine the appropriate quantity before the order is placed.
Once the material is selected, I approach the room with the designer's intent in mind. Focal points, pattern placement, symmetry, architectural features and the relationship between the wallcovering and furnishings are all considered when planning the layout.
And when an unexpected condition appears, as it sometimes does, the goal is to solve it thoughtfully, communicate clearly and protect the design rather than simply choosing the easiest installation solution.

Evaluate existing surfaces and recommend the preparation appropriate for the selected wallcovering, including repairs, skim coating, priming or liner paper when necessary.

Plan focal points, seams, pattern position and panel placement around the architecture and the overall design of the room.

When a designer recommends a tradesperson, that person becomes an extension of the designer's relationship with the client. I take that responsibility seriously.
Clear communication, respect for the home, careful work and attention to the details of the design are part of every project. I understand that clients may have invested considerable time and money selecting furnishings, finishes and wallcoverings, and the installation should reflect that same level of care.
I also understand the importance of communication when questions arise. If a wall condition, material issue or layout decision could affect the finished result, I'd rather discuss it before moving forward than make an assumption that changes the designer's intent.
The goal is to make the wallcovering portion of the project one less thing for the designer to worry about—from the initial measurements and material calculations through the final installation.
Good trade relationships are built the same way as good installations: communication, experience and attention to detail.
